Food Science Expert Corby Kummer to Deliver the 2024 Sargent Convocation Address

Corby Kummer, executive director of food & society at the Aspen Institute, senior editor at The Atlantic, and a senior lecturer at the Tufts Freidman School of Nutrition Science will deliver the Sargent College commencement address on May 19. Kummer will address undergraduate and graduate students from the Sargent Class of 2024 earning degrees in health disciplines including health science, human physiology, nutrition, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech, language & hearing sciences.

A recipient of six James Beard Journalism Awards, Kummer is a food science expert and the author of The Joy of Coffee and The Pleasures of Slow Food, the first book in English on the Slow Food movement. He has been a restaurant critic for New York, Boston, and Atlanta Magazines, and a food and food policy columnist for The New Republic. He is a longtime food columnist for The Atlantic, where he originated a vertical on food, sustainability, policy, and food justice. One of the country’s most widely quoted experts on food justice and food culture in the United States, he is a featured commentator on food and food policy every week on WGBH’s Boston Public Radio. Kummer attended the Loomis-Chafee School and received a BA from Yale College.
