Alan M. Jette, PT, PhD, serves as director of the Health & Disability Research Institute and professor of Health Policy & Management at Boston University School of Public Health. He also directs the Boston Rehabilitation Outcome Measurement Center, serves on the Executive Committee of the Boston Claude Pepper Older Americans Independence Center, and is director of the New England Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center. He served as dean of Boston University College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College from 1996-2004.

Dr. Jette’s work focuses on the development and dissemination of contemporary outcome measurement instruments to evaluate the quality of health care. He chaired the Institute of Medicine’s 2007 study and report, The Future of Disability in America, which highlights disability priorities for the nation.

He received a B.S in physical therapy from the State University of New York at Buffalo and an M.P.H. and Ph.D. in public health from the University of Michigan.

About the Lecture: Dr. Jette’s lecture will focus on the fundamental changes occurring within healthcare as we face the challenges of limited access to services and unsustainable cost escalation.  He will discuss three critical system skills that rehabilitation professionals must develop to practice successfully.  He will also speak on the necessity of directing resources to develop a new cadre of scientists, those who can compete for and conduct health services and health policy research to address the challenges currently facing us.
