Assistant Professor, Management & Organizations

Yanhua Bird is an Assistant Professor of Management & Organizations at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. Her research lies at the intersection of strategic human capital and responsible business. She examines how organizations and their leaders manage people amid changing social expectations and rapid advances in digital technology. Her work explores how organizational responses to these changes shape employee well-being, workplace inequality, and organizational performance. Methodologically, her work employs field experiments, natural experiments, and multi-method designs that combine large-scale corporate and employee-level data with qualitative evidence.

Her empirical work spans a range of organizational settings, including global supply chains, digital platforms, entrepreneurial fundraising, healthcare, textiles, and teleservices. Her research has been published in leading journals such as Organization Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Management Studies, and Organization Studies. She received her Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Harvard University and holds an M.A. in Management and dual bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Economics from Peking University.
