“I was pleasantly surprised by the program’s diverse student body, the strength of its alumni network, and the dedication of the career development team, which provided extensive support—especially with interview preparation.”
Jordan Wen, who earned an undergraduate degree in Finance from Xiamen University in 2022, became interested in the MS in Mathematical Finance and Financial Technology program during his internship at a cryptocurrency company in Shanghai. The experience made him realize the critical importance of quantitative skills and the power of combining technology with finance.
“This experience motivated me to pursue mathematical finance programs in the United States,” Jordan says, “I ultimately chose Boston University Questrom School of Business because of its strong alumni network and the vibrant academic and professional environment in Boston.” He graduated from the MS Mathematical Finance and Financial Technology program in December 2023.
The program’s rigorous quantitative training and supportive faculty prepared Jordan for day one in the financial industry through a strong foundation in advanced research and analytical work. “I was pleasantly surprised by the program’s diverse student body, the strength of its alumni network, and the dedication of the career development team, which provided extensive support—especially with interview preparation,” says Jordan.

Today, Jordan is a Senior Analyst in Model Risk at Santander Bank, applying the skills he gained from the MS in Mathematical Finance and Financial Technology program daily, as his work frequently involves financial models and mathematical methods. Much of his role centers on adapting theoretical formulas and textbook concepts to realistic, real-world scenarios. His team is responsible for validating trading models before they are deployed in live markets. “We conduct rigorous testing, including extensive Value at Risk (VaR) and Stressed Value at Risk (SVaR) analyses,” he says, “to mitigate risk and help prevent potential financial losses or systemic issues.”
Jordan’s long-term goal is to start and manage his own hedge fund. Outside of work, he enjoys staying active through tennis, basketball, hiking, swimming, and water polo.
