Andrew J. Sussman, M.D., is Chief Executive Officer of Medforth Global Healthcare Education, a role he assumed in 2017. Medforth Global Healthcare Education was developed as a platform to help address the growing global need for medical and healthcare professional education. Medforth Group owns St. George’s University (SGU) in Grenada, West Indies, a global leader in physician and veterinarian education. St. George’s University School of Medicine is the leading provider of doctors to the US healthcare system, with over 19,000 physician graduates. In 2019 Medforth Group acquired Rocky Vista University (RVU), a leading College of Osteopathic Medicine with campuses in Colorado, Utah and Montana (under construction). Both RVU and SGU combined educate almost 4% of the physicians entering post-graduate training in the US. Both schools are making important contributions to addressing the global shortage of physicians, particularly in primary care and underserved regions.
Previously, Dr. Sussman was Executive Vice President of Clinical Services at CVS Health, a leading health solutions provider, listed among the Fortune 10 companies. In this role, Dr. Sussman was President of MinuteClinic, the largest retail medical clinic provider in the United States. MinuteClinic has more than 1,100 retail health care centers located in CVS Pharmacy stores across 33 states. Under Dr. Sussman’s leadership, MinuteClinic increased patient volume from 2 million patient visits to 37 million visits over eight years. MinuteClinic expanded its clinic footprint, range of clinical services, integrated electronic records, and formed strategic affiliations with more than 70 leading health care systems.
Prior to joining CVS Health in 2009, Dr. Sussman was Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer of UMass Memorial Medical Center and an Associate Professor of Medicine at UMass Medical School in Worcester, MA. Before joining UMass Memorial in 2004, Dr. Sussman served as Chief Medical Officer of the Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization, a multi-specialty academic physician practice composed of 800 Harvard Medical School faculty members practicing and teaching at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. He was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and practiced primary care internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Dr. Sussman is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School as well as Boston University Questrom School of Business. He has been listed among America’s Best Doctors and Modern Healthcare’s 100 most influential people in health care.
