McManus’ interests lie within the intersection of strategy, innovation systems, and organizations with a focus on strategic innovation/transformation, i.e. the (re)invention of the core strategy, structure and systems in response to disruptive change in social, technologic, economic, environmental, and policy factors at the edge; work that is increasingly focused on digitally-enabled strategies/business models/ecosystems across a variety of industries.

McManus is a Fellow (and former principal), with the Bell-Mason Group, a boutique consulting firm focused on corporate venture and innovation program development based in Palo Alto, CA and a member of the Board of Advisors for Greentown Labs, the worlds largest cleantech incubator, based in Somerville, MA.

Prior to joining the faculty at Boston University full-time in 2006, McManus spent six years in the venture capital industry with Boston Millennia Partners, a $740M venture capital fund with international investments in early-stage technology ventures in the information technology, telecommunications, medical device, life sciences and healthcare services industries.

Previously, McManus spent eight years of C-Suite/BoD-level consulting on corporate venture development to Global 1000 firms, Joint Venture Partnerships and Private Equity/Family Funds in the IT and Telecom sectors across North and South America, Western, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia and the Middle East. He spent his early career in the high-tech industry with Digital Equipment Corporation in various management roles; most recently in corporate venture development and previously in product management (Open Source OS/GUI and CPU hardware), corporate research/advanced development (AI, Machine Learning and Distributed Computing) and product design & engineering.
