Luis Ballesteros

Global Business Career Development Professor, Strategy and Innovation

Luis Ballesteros is the Global Business Career Development Professor at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business and co-directs the GLOB~S Research Lab. His research examines how organizations respond and adapt to large-scale disruptions—climate change, natural disasters, financial crises, pandemics, and political unrest—and how the decisions firms make under adversity shape both their performance and the broader society. This work bridges market and nonmarket strategy, building on the premise that strategic choices made during disruption carry greater consequences for competition and social welfare than those made in stable environments.

He holds a PhD in Applied Economics and Management from the Wharton School and degrees from MIT and ITAM. Before academia, he worked with financial derivatives at two banks and with policy instruments to finance catastrophic risk at two multilateral agencies. He serves on the editorial review boards of Organization Science, the Academy of Management Journal, and the Strategic Management Journal.
