Kendra Wright

While an undergraduate student at the University of Mississippi majoring in Spanish and international studies, Kendra embarked on a research project that ignited her passion for improving healthcare delivery. She delved into how the public healthcare system in Bolivia has violated the rights of indigenous women and wanted to know more.

“This was my first introduction to a national healthcare system, and I have been enthralled with healthcare ever since,” Kendra says. Later, as an AmeriCorps member in her home state of Alabama, she screened preschool students for visual impairments and, when necessary, helped connect families with eye specialists in their area.

Once Kendra visited Questrom and spoke with faculty about her Bolivian research, she knew that based on the interactions she had, that Questrom was where she needed to be. “The program is strong in business and healthcare, making BU the perfect choice for me.”

Questrom’s Health Sector MBA program offers a healthcare concentration within a general MBA program through electives, conferences, case competitions and a dedicated mentoring program. “I have used these external sources to augment what I’m learning in the classroom and provide real-world experience to the theory learned throughout my program.”

Kendra led the Health & Life Sciences Conference (HLSC), working with nine of her classmates to gather thought leaders from all sectors of the healthcare industry to discuss its future. As the HLSC co-chair, she participated in three case competitions and was a member of the team at the University of Alabama-Birmingham competition that won first place for Best Q&A.

During her time at Questrom, Kendra completed an internship in New York City with Cognizant’s healthcare arm. Working alongside fellow BU alumni, she was pushed to think more creatively and strategically for clients who were looking to redesign their IT operations and marketing experience to better serve constituents. Her internship was so engaging that she accepted an offer to work for the consulting company as a full-time senior consultant after graduation.

In the long term, Kendra intends to explore ways to improve the consumer healthcare experience. “I hope to work with the delivery and payer side of healthcare to figure out how we can better engage with consumers so they can feel more autonomous and empowered with their health.”
