“I chose Questrom because of the team-based projects with real clients. I believe that hands-on experience is very important and is the best way for me to learn—applying what I learn right away.”
“I am a person who likes to learn everything and wants to know everything,” says Shilei Zhang. In Questrom’s MS in Management program, Shilei fed his insatiable quest for knowledge—and discovered a new career path.
At 15, Shilei came to the United States from China for high school. At Virginia Tech and Miami University, he studied physics. It was a summer program in business at Miami that sparked his interest in learning how to combine his background in science with management. Questrom’s MSMS program offered that opportunity, and more.
“I chose Questrom because of the team-based projects with real clients,” Shilei says. “I believe that hands-on experience is very important and is the best way for me to learn—applying what I learn right away.”
In the one-year MSMS program, Shilei used his new classroom knowledge to solve real marketing and customer service problems for WellSense Health, Paratek Pharmaceutical, and ChristianaCare Hospital. These invaluable team experiences showed him that healthcare is a mix of business, chemistry, social sciences, and physics. They also convinced him to pursue a career in healthcare. Now, he’s applying for product manager roles in hospitals and life science/medical equipment companies.
“I think the healthcare industry is the future,” Shiliei says. “We’ve experienced two industrial revolutions and an information revolution. Especially after COVID, I think this is the time for a healthcare/biotech revolution.”
Shilei has earned a master’s in management, but don’t think he’s quenched his thirst for new knowledge. With his newly minted degree in hand, he’s already planning to pursue another advanced degree—this time in a STEM field.
