Celebrating Pride Month 2024
June 3, 2024

June marks Pride Month, a time to celebrate the achievements, diversity, and resilience of the LGBTQI+ community worldwide. We’ve got a lot to celebrate and, still, a lot of work to do.
Despite legislative challenges, over 300 anti-LGBTQI+ bills failed to become law so far in 2024. In response to legislative attacks on transgender folx, several states are passing bills to shield transgender health care through legal protections, health care coverage, and access. In 2023, a record number of over 500 LGBTQI+ candidates ran for office in the United States, marking a nearly 20% increase from 2021. This surge in political participation included a notable rise in diverse representation, with more candidates of color, transgender, and nonbinary individuals running for office than ever before (LGBTQ+ Victory Fund).
The original Pride Parade in New York City will be held on June 30th and is expected to draw millions of people around the theme “Reflect. Empower. Unite.” This year, over 100 countries will observe Pride Month to serve as a powerful reminder of the global solidarity within the LGBTQI+ community and the ongoing fight for equal rights. Some of the largest global pride celebrations are in Los Angeles, New York City, São Paulo, Madrid, Berlin, and many others.
