“I found inspiring and helpful professors who cared about my career goals and met other students interested in and passionate about similar things.”
“If you’re interested in business, but you feel like finance and accounting aren’t for you or you feel like you haven’t yet found your people at Questrom, choose M&O as your concentration,” says Julia Molinaro.
Julia chose the Management & Organizations (M&O) concentration because she was drawn to the courses in nonprofit management and rganizational leadership. They ended up being some of her favorite and most memorable at BU.
“I still remember the nonprofit management course with David Stolow and the engaging debates we had, as well as the High Performing Teams class with Hutch Hutchinson, where we partnered with Thompson Island Outward Bound for a project,” she says.
These courses opened up the world and the future for Julia by covering topics she cared about and introducing her to organizations and people who were doing it.
“I found inspiring and helpful professors who cared about my career goals and met other students interested in and passionate about similar things.”
Another aspect Julia particularly liked about the M&O concentration was that it focused not only on learning from textbooks, but also doing hands-on, real-world projects that let her practice what she learned, and bring it to life.
“In this concentration, you will explore all the many options for your career that are outside the box and different from what many of your peers might be doing,” says Julia, who also co-concentrated in Entrepreneurship. “You will meet people who care about doing good through business and making a difference.”
Since earning her BSBA in 2017, Julia has led canoeing and backpacking trips for teens with Voyageur Outward Bound School in northern Minnesota and lived in Nepal for two years, where she worked for the global community development nonprofit BlinkNow Foundation as communications director. Since 2020, she has led digital marketing strategy for the Purpose Collective, a boutique consulting firm that helps nonprofits and purpose-driven organizations tell their stories and raise more revenue.
“You can go into anything with this concentration,” Julia adds. “It sets you up well for a variety of careers, and it will help show you what those possibilities are.”
