The Undergraduate Student Advisory Board serves as a vital conduit between Boston University’s student boy and the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs. Led by the Associate Provost, this advisory body brings diverse perspectives, lived experiences, and emerging insights from across the university’s residential schools, colleges, and programs to inform institutional decision-making and shape the undergraduate experience.
The board comprises dean-appointed student representatives from twelve full-time residential schools, colleges, and programs, alongside a delegate from student government. This intentional structure ensures that voices from across the university’s academic landscape—reflecting diverse majors, residential experiences, and student populations—directly influence institutional priorities and policy.
In monthly meetings, board members engage in substantive conversations with the Associate Provost and various invited senior leaders from across BU, serving as early-warning systems for emerging student concerns while simultaneously co-creating solutions. Members provide critical feedback on new academic initiatives, strategic programs, and policy proposals before implementation. Beyond responding to institutional agendas, the board actively generates ideas and recommendations for enhancing the academic experience, from classroom innovation and support services to community-building and career readiness.
The board recognizes that students are not passive consumers of undergraduate education but rather essential partners in its design and delivery. Our undergraduate affairs team believes that by embedding student voices at the decision-making table, we gain real-time insights into what matters most to our undergraduate community, ensure initiatives are responsive to actual student needs, and create ownership and accountability for shared institutional priorities. Students are also able to develop leadership capabilities and direct experience in institutional governance.
