Results of Campus Climate Survey and Next Steps
From Dr. Gloria Waters, University Provost and Chief Academic Officer
Last spring, we invited a representative sample of Boston University students to take part in a climate survey on sexual assault and sexual misconduct. Conducted in partnership with Rankin Climate LLC, a nationally recognized climate assessment firm, the survey was designed to gauge student perceptions of BU’s campus climate and knowledge of University resources related to sexual misconduct.
We recently received the data from this effort and have posted an executive summary of the survey’s findings on our website. I am now appointing a working group to engage deeply with the data to understand its implications and make recommendations for appropriate next steps. As the working group conducts its work, it will solicit feedback from the BU community.
Among BU’s highest priorities is providing a safe, healthy, and nondiscriminatory environment for all members of our community. While we have taken a number of steps in recent years to raise awareness of this issue and reduce the rate of sexual misconduct in our community, we know we still have progress to make to achieve our goal of a harassment-free community.
This topic is sensitive and profoundly personal for many individuals, and we sincerely appreciate everyone who took the time to participate in the survey. Confidential resources are available should you wish to speak with someone about your experience or after reviewing the materials. This brochure provides further details and a list of confidential resources at BU.
Fostering a safe campus environment and promoting a culture of respect is a collective responsibility for all members of the BU community. Thank you to the students who participated in this survey and to all of you for your continued support and engagement with this important initiative.
