Janetos Becomes Chair of Committee to Advise USGCRP
Prof. Anthony Janetos, the Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, attended the spring meeting of the National Academy of Sciences Committee to Advise the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) last week in Washington, DC. The Committee aims to bring together a wide range of expertise to advise the USGCRP on broad, program-wide issues through ongoing discussions, specific tasks, and reports. The committee began with a review of the 2012-2021 USGCRP Strategic Plan, and has since included a review of the National Climate Assessments and an evaluation of the USGCRP’s progress toward its Strategic Plan objectives.
At the meeting, federal science managers briefed the committee on recent activities, and the committee discussed its role in a restricted funding environment. Prof. Janetos took over as Chair of the committee at this meeting, with Prof. Kristie Ebi of the University of Washington taking over as vice-Chair.
