Prof. Silva named Pardee Center Faculty Fellow

silvaEnrique R. Silva, Assistant Professor and Faculty Coordinator of City Planning and Urban Affairs from Boston University, was named as a Faculty Fellow of the Boston University Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future.

Prof. Silva has been involved with the Pardee House since the beginning of 2010. In March 2010, Prof. Silva spoke at a Pardee House Seminar on future challenges in dealing with disasters together with Dr. Pablo Suarez and Prof. Anuradha Mukherji and in more recently, in May 2010, Prof. Silva participated in a dialogue on ”The University’s Role in Dealing with Disasters and Complex Human Emergencies” organized by the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and the Boston University Provost.

Prof. Silva is currently analyzing the institutionalization of participatory planning policies in Chile and the U.S.A. His research raises questions about the challenges inherent in the democratization of planning and policy-making in general, especially in the context of neoliberal economic-political regimes. This research contributes to broader theoretical debates on democracy and pluralism, but it also informs public sector and grass-roots strategies to improve participatory planning mechanisms.
