Prof. Joel E. Cohen (2007-2008)

Prof. Joel Cohen is a professor of populations and heads the Laboratory of Populations at Rockefeller University. He is a pre-eminent expert on the demography, ecology, epidemiology, and social organization of human and non-human populations. Dr. Cohen was a MacArthur Fellow and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the board of directors of The Nature Conservancy, and the board of trustees of the Population Reference Bureau. He shared the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement in 1999 and the Fred L. Soper Prize of the Pan American Health Organization in 1998 for his work on Chagas disease.

Prof. Cohen was the Pardee Visiting Professor of Future Studies in 2007–08 and presented a Pardee Distinguished Lecture on “The Human Population: The Past, or Passing, or To Come.”
