- Starts: 5:30 pm on Sunday, December 7, 2025
- Ends: 6:30 pm on Sunday, December 7, 2025
As a special edition of the Tuesday Night Lecture Series (TNLS), Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Visual Arts, in partnership with the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICE), present an artist talk by cartoonist and comic theorist Scott McCloud, organized by the MFA Visual Narrative program.
This presentation will close out MICE's weekend long expo on BU's campus, and takes place Sunday, December 7, from 5:30 - 6:30pm at the Howard Thurman Center, 808 Commonwealth Ave, Boston.
Scott McCloud is the award-winning author of Understanding Comics, Making Comics, Zot!, and other fiction and nonfiction comics spanning thirty years. He's a frequent lecturer on the power of visual communication, creator of the 24-Hour Comic movement, and, in 2021, was inducted into the Will Eisner Awards Hall of Fame. His art and stories are available in over 30 languages. His most recent graphic novels are The Sculptor from First Second Books and The Cartoonists Club with Raina Telgemeier from Scholastic Graphix.
About The Cartoonists Club: Makayla is bursting with ideas but doesn't know how to make them into a story. Howard loves to draw, but he struggles to come up with ideas and his dad thinks comics are a waste of time. Lynda constantly draws in her sketchbook but keeps focusing on what she feels are mistakes, and Art simply loves being creative and is excited to try something new. They come together to form The Cartoonists Club, where kids can learn about making comics and use their creativity and imagination for their own storytelling adventures!
About MICE: The Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICE) is the New England area’s premier event dedicated to the exciting and accessible art form of independent comics and graphic novels. Each year, MICE plays host to hundreds of independent comics artists and small press publishers alongside thousands of attendees eager to check out new comics, join in on hands-on workshops, and attend inclusive panel discussions. This year MICE will be taking place Saturday, December 6 and Sunday December 7.
