What to Bring, What to Leave at Home

Choosing to live on campus for your summer internship comes with many benefits. All apartments are furnished with a refrigerator, stove, kitchen table/chairs (depending on apartment layout), and living room/common room furniture. Individual bedrooms come with a twin-XL-size bed, desk and chair, and a closet or wardrobe. In addition, enjoy access to internet and laundry facilities.

Items to Bring

Individuals should consider bringing the following items, as they are not provided by BU Housing:

  • Kitchen dinnerware, silverware, glasses, kitchen utensils, pots/pans
  • Standard twin-XL sheets, pillow, pillowcase, mattress cover/pad, comforter/blanket
  • Washcloth and towels
  • Alarm clock
  • Flashlight
  • Power outlet strip (surge-protected only)
  • Desk or floor lamp to supplement in-room lighting
  • Hangers
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Laundry basket/laundry supplies
  • Television
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Small fan
  • Hairdryer

What to Leave at Home

We invite you to bring items that will make your stay enjoyable, but the following items are prohibited:

  • Additional furniture
  • Pets
  • Non-surge-protected extension cords
  • Halogen lamps
  • Candles and incense
  • Hoverboards
  • Cinder blocks
  • Air conditioners (not permitted)
  • Flammable liquids
  • Grills (propane and charcoal)
  • Explosives, including fireworks
  • Weapons, including switchblade and butterfly knives, spears, swords, souvenir weapons, or chemicals
  • Firearms, including ammunition, tasers, or pellet/BB/air/paintball guns
  • Alcohol, if underage
  • Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia
