BU Law Launches Online Certificate in Transactional Skills
Executive-focused program is latest addition to school’s robust online offerings.
Boston University School of Law is pleased to announce the launch of its Certificate in Transactional Skills, a 12-credit program designed to help professionals develop the knowledge and practical skills needed for transactional international business law practice. It will be available beginning in the spring 2019 semester.
“The Certificate in Transactions Skills emphasizes the key attribute that distinguishes our Executive LLM program: a focus on hands-on, practical learning rather than just theory,” says program director Ian C. Pilarczyk. “We are excited to introduce this new addition to our executive portfolio.”
The certificate’s specialized classes, all offered through BU Law’s Executive LLM in International Business Law, are available in two convenient formats:
- Entirely online (asynchronously)
- Hybrid courses that combine two-week residencies with online instruction
Students can complete the certificate entirely online or through a mix of online and hybrid classes.
“Our students, all of whom are experienced practitioners, actively seek out best practices and ways to apply their learning in their industries. We believe the flexibility of the certificate’s online and hybrid formats will appeal to busy practitioners,” says Pilarczyk.
“BU Law is a leader in transactional skills training at the JD and LLM levels,” says John N. Riccardi, the school’s assistant dean for graduate & international programs. “Through our new certificate, professionals can receive the same, practical training without committing to a degree program, and can do so while maintaining their work commitments.”
Among the certificate’s offerings is International Business Negotiations, taught by Professor Robert Burdick, director of BU Law’s Civil Litigation Program. The course features live moderated negotiations among students, all of whom receive Professor Burdick’s expert coaching and guidance based on his 30+ years of teaching experience.
Other course options include such classes as Deals: The Legal Engineering Behind Corporate Transactions, US and International Mergers & Acquisitions, and International Arbitration. Candidates who complete the certificate are eligible to receive admission to BU Law’s Executive LLM in International Business Law on an advanced standing basis, and to apply their certificate credits towards the Executive LLM program credit requirements.
