BU Law Welcomes Kathryn Zeiler as Professor of Law and Nancy Barton Scholar
Former Georgetown Law Center professor brings expertise in health law and law & economics.
Boston University School of Law is pleased to welcome Kathryn Zeiler to its full time faculty as professor of law and Nancy Barton Scholar. Zeiler has been a visiting professor of law since 2013, teaching in the School’s top-ranked Health Law Program and organizing the Seminar in Law and Economics.
Professor Zeiler’s research focuses on health care law and economics, medical malpractice liability and insurance, disclosure regulation, experimental economics, and behavioral law and economics. The Seminar in Law and Economics workshop invites prominent law professors and practitioners from around the country to apply economic analysis to a variety of legal issues. Participants have included professors from leading colleges and the president of the American Law & Economics Association.
“Teaching at BU Law has been a true pleasure,” Zeiler says. “It’s been particularly impressive to observe how hard the faculty works to deliver a top-rate legal education to the students. It’s clear they are succeeding. The students are not only well trained but also happy to be members of the BU community.”
Zeiler served as a member of the board of directors of the American Law and Economics Association from 2010 to 2012, and is currently serving on the editorial board of the American Law and Economics Review and on the board of the Society for Empirical Legal Studies. She is a member of the Max Planck Institute’s Scientific Review Board for Research on Collective Goods.
Zeiler taught Torts and Economic Analysis of Health Care Law at Georgetown Law Center and co-directed the Georgetown Law & Economics Workshop. Previously a visiting professor at Harvard Law School and New York University School of Law, Zeiler has also taught law and economics courses at ETH Zurich, Hebrew University, and the Gerzensee Study Center in Switzerland.
She earned a BS from Indiana University, an MS in taxation from Golden Gate University, a PhD in economics from the California Institute of Technology and a JD from the University of Southern California.
“Professor Zeiler has already added a great deal to our scholarly life and has been a wonderful counselor to students and participant in the life of the School,” Dean Maureen O’Rourke says. “I am delighted she has accepted our offer to permanently join the full-time faculty at BU Law.”
