Lois H. Knight, clinical professor of law emeritus and director of BU Law’s Clinical and Advocacy Program from 1995 to 2014, passed away on August 15, 2015 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after a two-year struggle with cancer. A 2003 recipient of the Silver Shingle Alumni Award for Distinguished Service to the School, she had retired from the BU Law faculty in 2014 after 37 years of service.

“Lois was truly beloved by her students and faculty alike,” says BU Law Dean Maureen A. O’Rourke. “She did a wonderful job adjusting our programs to the new legal market, all while waging a courageous battle with cancer.”

Prior to joining BU Law, Knight had earned a BS from Tufts University and a JD from Georgetown University and served as a Vista staff attorney for Cape Cod and the Islands and assistant regional council for the Department of Public Welfare in Boston.

Born in Washington, DC in 1948, she was the daughter of the late Alfred C. Knight, former judge of the Barnstable County (MA) Probate Court and Ruth I. Knight. She is survived by a brother, Alfred C. Knight of Old Greenwich, CT, Laurel K. Cobb and her husband Dr. J. Stanley Cobb of Mitchellville, MD; a nephew Dr. Nathan Cobb and his wife Kyle and daughter Eliza of Washington DC; and by a niece Lisa Cobb and her husband Grant Gross and son Noah of Laurel, MD.

A memorial service will be held at Old South Church in Boston’s Copley Square on Saturday, September 26 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Old South Church.
