BU Law Alumni to Lead Mass. Bar Associations in 2014-15
Julia Huston (’92) appointed president of BBA, John Morrissey (’92) and Christopher Kenney (’90) co-VPs of MBA
Three Boston University School of Law alumni have been elected to leadership positions within bar associations in Massachusetts for the 2014-15 term. Julia Huston (’92, CAS’87, SED‘87), partner in Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property and Litigation departments, is serving as president of the Boston Bar Association, and John J. Morrissey (’92), founding partner of Morrissey Wilson & Zafiropoulos, and Christopher A. Kenney (’90), founding member of Kenny & Sams, are co-vice presidents of the Massachusetts Bar Association. Their terms went into effect September 1, 2014.
Huston is chair of Foley Hoag’s Trademark, Copyright & Unfair Competition practice and co-chair of the Advertising and Marketing group in the Boston Office. Her practice includes litigation, counseling and strategy in the areas of trademarks, copyrights, false advertising and unfair competition.
Previously, Huston served as the BBA’s president-elect, vice president, treasurer, secretary, chair of the Amicus Committee, co-chair of the Delivery of Legal Services Section, co-chair of the Litigation Section, and co-chair of the Intellectual Property Litigation Committee. She is also a trustee of the Boston Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the BBA.
Huston graduated magna cum laude from the School of Law in 1992. She also holds a BA from BU’s College of Arts and Sciences, a BS from BU’s School of Education, and a Master’s in Education from Harvard.
Morrissey has a trial practice at Morrissey, Wilson & Zafiropoulos LLP in Braintree, where he handles personal injury claims, including wrongful death, catastrophic injury and workers’ compensation claims. In addition to his personal injury practice he represents individuals and businesses in commercial and real estate disputes.
Morrissey was appointed a commissioner of the Hingham Conservation Commission by the Board of Selectmen in 2014. Since 2012, he has served as a director of Independent Bank Corporation and Rockland Trust. Independent Bank Corp has approximately $6.2 billion in assets and is the holding company for Rockland Trust Company, a full-service commercial bank headquartered in Massachusetts.
Morrissey serves as a member of the MBA Executive Management Board and as an arbitrator with the MBA Fee Arbitration Board. In addition, he is a member of the MBA’s Workplace Safety Task Force. In the past, he has served on the MBA’s governing board, the House of Delegates, and as chair of the MBA Judicial Administration Section Council. In 2013, Morrissey volunteered to participate in the MBA Marathon Bombing Victims’ Legal Assistance Program, where he provided free legal services to victims of the marathon bombings.
Kenney (’90) is a founding member and managing shareholder of Kenney & Sams PC in Boston. Through his litigation practice, he has successfully tried cases before every level of the state and federal trial court system in Massachusetts, and has also served as an appellate advocate before the Massachusetts Appellate Division, Massachusetts Appeals Court, Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, and the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He serves as New England regional trial counsel for several major corporations.
A past MBA secretary, Kenney is the chair of the MBA’s Consumer Advocacy Committee and a member of the MBA’s Executive Management Board and Membership Committee. He has also served in the association’s House of Delegates and is a former chair of the MBA’s Civil Litigation Section.
Kenney has served as an adjunct faculty member at the School of Law and also served as president of the Alumni Association from 2010-11. BU Law honored him with a Silver Shingle Award for outstanding service to the School in 2012.
