Ethical Issues for Law Students in the Age of AI
Speaker: Maureen Leo
As artificial intelligence rapidly reshapes legal practice in the United States, law students are entering a profession undergoing profound change. This talk examines how AI tools are improving efficiency, expanding access to legal information, and transforming core aspects of lawyering—while also introducing significant ethical, practical, and professional risks. In an age where AI is becoming embedded in research, writing, client communication, and decision-making, future lawyers must understand both its promise and its pitfalls.
The session explores the tension between the powerful benefits of AI and the real dangers of misuse, offering practical solutions to help law students succeed academically and professionally while maintaining ethical integrity. Well, the litigation floodgates have once again burst open. This time by aggrieved artists, authors and musicians who’ve taken to the courts seeking to hold tech leaders like OpenAI & Meta responsible for mass copying of their works as part of the training of their large language models.
