Christina Rice Appointed Director of BU Law’s Graduate Tax Program

Rice brings a love of teaching and a deep knowledge of tax law to the role.

Christina RiceChristina Rice (JD’07, LLM’13) has been named the director of Boston University School of Law’s Graduate Tax Program. She has served as a teaching assistant and then as a member of the adjunct faculty teaching tax accounting courses in the Graduate Tax Program since completing her LLM in Taxation in 2013.

As a JD student at BU Law, Rice discovered her passion for tax law after taking Federal Income Tax with Professor David Walker and Trusts & Estates with Professor Fran Miller. After graduation, she began her legal career in the business law group at Foley Hoag LLP focusing on venture capital financing just as the venture capital markets began to collapse. She received her undergraduate degree in theater education from Emerson College with a minor in broadcast journalism.

Rice returned to her love of teaching during the economic recession. She worked part-time for a local health care law firm and served as the auditorium manager for Wellesley Middle School, where she taught technical theater skills to middle school students and managed the lighting, sound, and staging for all productions in the auditorium.

Rice enrolled in BU Law’s LLM in Taxation program in 2010. After her first semester in the GTP, she was recruited by her Tax Accounting professor (and current co-instructor) Phil Roshak to work in the tax practice at Ernst & Young. During her six years at EY, Rice focused on providing a mix of corporate tax compliance and advisory services to a wide range of businesses, including Fortune 500 companies and small biotechnology start-ups.

Established in 1959 as one of the nation’s first graduate tax programs, the GTP now stands as one of the best. It currently ranks second in the nation, according to the National Law Journal. It is ranked #8 in tax studies among US law schools, according to US News & World Report and, for four consecutive years, it was noted among the country’s top seven LLM in Taxation programs in the annual TaxTalent survey of corporate tax department heads.

“My experience at BU Law both as a JD and LLM student was truly outstanding,” says Rice. “I am looking forward to sharing that experience with our current and future GTP students and using everything I’ve learned to make our program the best it can be.”
