How can anthropologists map a nuanced spectrum of responses to contemporary discussions of post-truth? To what extent does the outrage at “alternative facts” eschew deep-seated histories of manipulation of facts, which were always part of the sociopolitical landscape? Recognizing the limitations of purely empirical accounts of the world, how can we expand the realm of truth claims in creative and critical ways? Drawing on ethnographic research across Cyprus, Greece, Poland, Senegal, Turkey, and the U.S, this roundtable continues a year-long conversation.
