Hare Preaching Prize Entries
Edith P. and Augustus G. Hare Preaching Prize
Boston University School of Theology
9 AM to 4 PM in B23 on May 17, 2023
The Hare Preaching Prize is open to all STH students registered for the spring term 2023. Student preachers are free to speak from any tradition or spirituality. The two recipients of the Hare Preaching Prize will receive $1,000 each. Winners will be announced at STH graduation on May 19. Students may preach a sermon for one of two possible sermon prizes.
Enter Only One of the Two Hare Prizes:
- Hare Preaching Prize 1 will be for those sermons based on a Biblical or other scriptural text, dependent upon the student’s tradition.
- Hare Preaching Prize 2 will be for those sermons preached for a situation of the student’s choice, which therefore includes preachers who speak in non-church, public prophetic, and/or chaplaincy contexts.
How to Enter and Prepare for Hare Preaching Prize 1:
Students who enter Hare Preaching Prize 1 will indicate their interest by providing
- (a) the Biblical or other scriptural or traditional text they intend to preach about and
- (b) a half-page, single-spaced description of the context of the intended audience.
Both parts of the Prize 1 entry (a and b) as well as the name and STH program of the student entering must be included in an email to haresth@bu.edu by April 30, 2023. A completed entry will allow you access to a GoogleDoc timetable to schedule your sermon before the judges in B23 on Wednesday, May 17.
