Feel free to refer to this throughout the year and please reach out to Zach Semko at zsemko@bu.edu with any questions.
What is the BLT?
The BU Jewish Leadership Team (BLT) is a diverse community of 200+ student leaders from all backgrounds including student athletes, Greek life leaders, student government representatives and more! BLTers incubate and create Jewish Life across Boston University through their involvement in fellowships (cohort-based, programming communities), internships (professional development experiences that advance Hillel work), or passion projects (unique, student-led programs). There are passion projects of all kinds some examples include:
- Shabbat bouquet making
- Challah for Hunger
- Taste of Israel Dinner
- Book Clubs
- Basketball fundraisers
And so much more! If you have an idea, we are happy to help you make it happen!
Additionally, you have access to an exclusive Whatsapp Group, marketing, funding, space, professional headshots and a staff mentor.
Our staff mentors include:
- Ethan Sobel – Executive Director
- Zach Semko – Springboard Innovation Fellow
- Ellie Fromstein – IACT/ Manager of Israel Engagement and Travel
- Daniel Cohen – Jewish Agency Fellow
- Julia Grunes – Jewish Life Fellow
- Yanai Sagay – Director of Wellness
- Maya Sobel – BU Engagement Fellow
- Samantha Brody – Springboard Ezra Fellow
As always, if you have any questions about anything at all, please email or come talk to Zach!
Ways you can be in the BLT:
- You are accepted into an internship or fellowship
- You create or plan to create an initiative or program with the support of staff
- You take on the responsibilities of an existing project or initiative
How to plan programs; get money, space, food or marketing
- Step 1) Meet with your staff mentor to help bring your ideas to life.
- Step 2) Once you have discussed your initiative with your mentor, create a plan for your program and submit a BLT program request guide. Please plan this event at least two weeks before the program date.
- Step 3) When your staff mentor tells you the event has been approved, it’s time to spread the word and create marketing for the event! Submit a BLT Marketing Form.
- Step 4) Once you have received your flyer, spread the word! Post on IG and reach out to your peers and other student leaders!
- Step 5) Correspond with your staff mentor to make sure you are ready for the program.
- Step 6) Mazel Tov!! You have followed the BLT guidelines and created a meaningful initiative or program based on your interests! You are building community :)
I was a BLTer last semester. Am I still in the BLT?
Yes! You are still in the BLT even if you are no longer in an internship or fellowship. Look out for an email from your mentor about ways to continue to be involved! This could be mentoring new interns or fellows, joining or starting an initiative, or meeting with your cohort! Let us know how we can best support YOU!
