M.A. Student; History of Art & Architecture

Sarah Grimes holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and a Bachelor’s degree in Design from the University of California, Davis. Her undergraduate thesis examining how art galleries can adapt design methodologies from children’s museums to create more engaging and educational gallery spaces won the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research, UC Davis’s highest research honor. She is currently pursuing her MA in the History of Art and Architecture, focusing on American Modern and Contemporary art with particular focus on the counterculture movement in the late 1960s.

Sarah has led several curatorial teams at the Design Museum and the Manetti Shrem Art Museum at UC Davis, as well as more recently working as a curatorial assistant in a museum in her hometown of Modesto, California. She also just recently presented her thesis work at the 2025 American Alliance of Museums Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo in Los Angeles.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys exploring the archives at the Boston Public Library and browsing the numerous record stores in Boston.
