– 17th Century Japanese Painting
– Women in Japanese Painting and Prints
– Narrative Arts of Japan
Morgan has an interest in the portrayal of women in Japanese Art History. My undergraduate studies accumulated into a thesis on narrative scrolls from medieval Japan that depicted the transformation of women into reptiles and comparing the images to the earlier written text and how the female body represents control over one’s self. My current research is focusing on Oi Katsushika, Hokusai’s Daughter, and her six surviving paintings.
