Emma Lazerson is a first-year PhD student, studying the art of the Italian Renaissance with Dr. Jodi Cranston. She specializes in women artists of the Cinque- and Seicento, analyzing how post-colonial and global theories, social histories, and Marxist philosophies may be brought to bear on the artistic practices of these women.
Her article, “Performance and Imitation: Sofonisba Anguissola’s Self-Portrait with Madonna and Child,” was published in the Spring 2023 issue of Sequitur, Boston University’s Graduate Art History Journal. She also recently presented her paper “Lavinia Fontana’s Portrait of Antoinetta Gonzales in Global Context” at University of Alabama’s Challenging Empire: Women, Art, and the Global Early Modern World symposium in March 2024. She holds a BA with high honors from Emory University and an MA from Case Western Reserve University.
