Alumni Profile – Willie Granston

  1. What have you been doing since you graduated from BU? Details about your current and past employment? Accomplishments you’re proud of? Challenges you’ve encountered?

I was very lucky to leave BU having already secured a job. I’m currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut (where I went to college). Sometimes it’s a little surreal to find myself teaching some of the classes that I took as an undergrad in the very spaces where I attended these classes.

  1. How did your time in the department shape your professional and personal lives?

I feel so lucky to have been a graduate student at BU and to have had the opportunity to learn from so many interesting professors, peers, and colleagues. The people within HAA were so kind and supportive, and that’s something that made the experience of doing a PhD much more pleasant. I also loved being in Boston, and did my best to explore the city and the surrounding area as much as possible.

  1. Any advice that you would’ve given to your younger self?

– Don’t be afraid to put work away sometimes and enjoy yourself

– Take every opportunity you can.

– Never pass up the chance to eat a peanut butter cup.
