PhD Candidate Named Director of Palmer Museum
PhD candidate, Erin Coe has been named Director of the Palmer Museum at The Pennsylvania State University.
The Palmer Museum of Art on the Penn State University Park campus in State College is a free-admission arts resource for the University and surrounding communities in central Pennsylvania. With a collection of 8,300 objects including American art, Old Master paintings, photography, ceramics and studio glass, and contemporary art, the Palmer is the largest art museum between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
From 2015 to 2017, Erin Coe was the Director of the Hyde Collection, Glens Falls, NY, and was that museum’s Curator from 1999 to 2014. She was the curator of the critically acclaimed exhibition “Modern Nature: Georgia O’Keeffe and Lake George,” organized by The Hyde Collection in association with the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in 2013. The exhibition traveled to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, and then to the De Young Museum, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. She is the co-author of the exhibition catalogue (Thames and Hudson, 2013), which was honored with an Award of Excellence by the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC). She is writing a dissertation titled “Cultural Icon Meets Cultural Landscape: Georgia O’Keeffe, Historiography, and Lake George.”
