The 2023 Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week at BU will be held April 3-7, 2023. Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week was started in 1993 by the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students (NAGPS) to demonstrate appreciation for graduate and professional students nationwide. In collaboration with our university partners, BU is celebrating with a series of virtual and in-person events, a small gesture to demonstrate the University’s appreciation for the important role graduate and professional students play within our community. The event schedule can be found here. These events are free and open to all BU graduate and professional students. Please be sure to register!

PDPA – Making the Most of Elevator Pitches and Lightning Talks

2-3:15pm, March 30, Zoom RSVP

In this webinar, participants will learn about how to maximize the potential of a short duration to present such as a lightning talk. When you have a minute or less to respond to questions such as “tell me about yourself,” you are pitching about yourself. And the same goes for when people ask you about your research. How can you talk about your research in an engaging manner in a minute? Through activities and discussion, we will explore the topics of creating engaging lightning talks and elevator pitches.

PDPA – Teaching Statements

11am-12pm, April 4, Zoom RSVP

The Teaching Statement is a description of your teaching philosophy, accomplishments, and a discussion of potential of your teaching for the future. It is a common part of academic job applications that allows you to share how enthusiastic you are about your teaching and how you envision your growth as an educator. During this one hour workshop, you will learn about the main purpose and contents of a teaching philosophy statement, and will get tips about how to format, organize, write and revise your teaching statements.
