Graduate Student Tax Webinar – For international and domestic students

GSO Pub Night

GSO hosted two happy hours at Fullers Pub where members were able to purchase discounted drinks and cocktails.

LinkedIn Photoshoot
October 28th, 2021
GSO procured the services of a professional photographer to offer FREE professional headshots to graduate students. Professional photos can often cost hundreds of dollars. We we able to safely offer free photos shot outdoors to over 50 students.

Graduate Student Fair
October 23rd, 2021
GSO hosted the first annual Graduate Student Fair in collaboration with GWISE. By setting up tables outside of Marsh Chapel, we were able to meet with graduate students and share the message of our organization.

Virtual Paint Night
April 15th, 2021
GSO was able to mail out paint kits to interested graduate students for a virtual paint class of the Boston skyline.

Life After the Ph.D.: Finding the Right Postdoctoral Position

Berry Tripping

Where: BU Pub
Stop by the BU Pub on April 1 to take your taste buds on a palate-altering odyssey with Magic Berries, which make sour and bitter foods taste sweet. Impress your friends and wow your classmates as you perform fantastic feats of gustatory bravado: eat lemons and limes like candy, slurp vinegar like chardonnay, and turn dark beer into chocolate milk! But leave the savory snacks at home, as we’ll be providing food for you to experiment on your temporarily transformed tongue.  Magic berries will be $5 and there will be $1 drink tickets available.

Goodbye to Winter Reception

Last year’s Goodbye to Winter Reception was very successful and this year’s event will be even bigger! We are co-sponsoring the event with the graduate student government in College of Engineering, the Student Association of Graduate Engineers (SAGE). The event will feature music, drinks, lots of food (hors d’oeuvres, cookies, macaroons, spinach, artichoke, and feta dip, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and more). Because we are ordering lots of food and drinks, there will be a $5 cover charge and drink tickets will be $2.  Please remember to bring your age ID and BU ID. Guests are welcome but everyone must be over 21.

Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger

Time: 8:00 AM
Where: 20 miles through the Greater Boston Area
The GSO organized a team of graduate students and friends and managed to raise $1490.01 ($490.01 over our goal of $1000, which itself was double the goal from last year) to help feed hungry people in Massachusetts. This is enough money to fund 3 summer food programs for low-income children or provide 75 families with groceries for one week.

Goodbye to Winter Reception

The GSO is holding a Goodbye to Winter Reception on Friday, March 27 from 8-11 p.m. in the Trustees Lounge on the 9th floor in SMG (One Sherborn Street entrance). The event will include music, (background bossa beats, lounge jazz, and general chillout music) beer, wine, soft drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and pastries. Guests are welcome and please remember to bring your ID. (Alcohol will be served, so all attendees must be over 21).

GSO Summer BBQ!

Middlesex Fells Hike

A GSO member generously offered his services and qualifications and led a hike in the Middlesex Fells Reservation on June 13.  Approximately 20 people joined him, mostly other GRS students, but also some guests of said students.  Fun times were had!

GSO Jazz Brunch
