Dr. Montegut is the Former Director of the Global Health Primary Care Initiative in the Department of Family Medicine, Boston University. He received his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine and completed his residency training at the Brown University/Memorial Hospital. Dr. Montegut began his career as a solo family physician in a rural town in Maine and after ten years helped create and practiced in a group practice. He began at the Maine Medical Center where he then served as Residency Director from 2001-07 was also the Director of a Division of International Health Improvement. His experience in international consulting has spanned close to two decades.

Dr. Montegut served as the director of the USSR/Russian Family Medicine Development Project from 1989 until 1995. In 1995, Dr. Montegut began a consultative relationship with the Ministry of Health, Vietnam.There, he has directed several projects that have led to the creation of the specialty of Family Medicine and postgraduate training programs in the specialty. In addition, Dr. Montegut has directed medical education projects in Laos and Cambodia, consulting for the Ministries of Health of Saudi Arabia and China and for medical schools in Armenia, Hungary, Oman, and Bahrain. Dr. Montegut is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Family Medicine, and is the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) Regional President for North America.
