Adult Swim Lessons
Swimming is an excellent, low-impact activity as an alternative to cardio machines, and it is a great form of all-around exercise -ideal for any age or fitness level! Swimming is also a relaxing, low-pressure exercise that can improve mood, relieve stress, and help you unwind.
We offer a variety of swim classes for adults. Whether you’re a beginner who has never had exposure to swim lessons before, a comfortable swimmer looking to refine your technique, or a seasoned swimmer seeking a structured workout, we have a class to suit your needs!
Beginning Swim I – Learning the Basics
This course is designed for swimmers who have little to no swimming experience. The class focuses on basic swimming skills for beginners. Water safety and how to help yourself and/or others in an aquatic emergency are reviewed. Skills covered include: floating, breath control, kicking, front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, comfort in the deep end of the Recreational Pool (5’), and treading water. This class takes place in our Recreational Pool.
Beginning Swim II – Progressive Swim
This course is designed for swimmers who have some experience with swimming and feel comfortable in shallow water. Instruction will focus on improving stroke technique for advanced beginners and learning skills required for lap swimming, including open turns and starts off the wall. Skills and concepts needed to stay safe in and around water, and to help yourself or others in an aquatic emergency, will be covered. Skills to be covered include: floating, breath control, kicking, front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, comfort in the deep end of the Competition Pool (8’), and treading water.
Please Note: This class starts in our Recreational Pool and moves to our Competition Pool.
Prerequisites: Graduate of Beginner I; OR:
- Jump into deep water from the side, recover to the surface, maintain position by treading/floating for 1 minute, turn as necessary to orient to the exit point, level off, swim front crawl and/or elementary backstroke for 15 yards, then exit the water.
- Push off in a streamlined position, then swim front crawl for 15 yards, change position and direction as necessary, swim backstroke for 15 yards, then exit the water.
Intermediate – Improving Skills and Strokes
This course is designed to improve participants’ proficiency in basic aquatic skills and the four competitive swimming strokes. The instructors will teach skills and concepts needed to stay safe in and around water and to help yourself or others in an aquatic emergency. Skills to be covered include: refinement of front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke, introduction to butterfly, and continued practice for comfort in deep water.
Please Note: This class takes place in our Competition Pool.
Prerequisites: Graduate of Beginner II; OR:
- Swim any stroke for 50 yards
- Swim front crawl 50 yards, changing direction and position of travel as necessary using an efficient turning style
- Swim backstroke for 25 yards
- Swim breaststroke for 25 yards
- Submerge underwater, swim 2 body lengths, and return to the surface to start a stroke
Advanced – Swimming for Fitness
This course is designed for intermediate and advanced swimmers who want to improve their fitness and technique through workouts and drills. Workouts will focus on improving technique and building endurance. More advanced workouts will be provided for swimmers who enjoy swimming as a method of improving cardiovascular performance and maintaining their fitness level. This class will focus on applying the basics of fitness swimming, including technique drills, flipturns, diving, reading a pace clock, interval training, and creating personalized workouts. Instructors will critique students’ strokes and offer individualized feedback. Students will be taught starts and efficient turning styles if these skills are not already mastered.
Please Note: This class takes place in our Competition Pool.
Prerequisites: Graduate of Intermediate; OR:
- Swim front crawl 100 yards, change direction and position of travel as necessary using an efficient turning style and then swim backstroke for 50 yards with an efficient backstroke turn.
- Swim breaststroke 50 yards, change direction of travel using an efficient open turn as necessary and then swim butterfly for 25 yards.
- Submerge underwater and swim 5 body lengths underwater with controlled breathing, return to the surface and then exit the water.
Children’s Swim Lessons
FitRec Swim School is a high quality progressive swim lesson program for ages 6 months to 14 years. It is designed to teach children competency in the four main swimming strokes. Our program also incorporates water safety topics to empower children to make decisions around the water that will keep them safe while having fun.
FitRec’s Swim Club is a non-competitive preparatory program for children looking to get into competitive swimming.
