Ann Brown Allen
Pilates Instructor
Ann was a founding member of the Danny Sloan Dance Company in the late 1970s, one of the only African-American women dancing professionally in Boston at the time. Over four decades, she performed with major modern and jazz dance companies, toured New England, New York, and Europe, and was a guest artist with several ballet companies. She choreographed for a children’s theater organization and is a USPA Authentic Pilates™ teacher. Ann sits on the boards of Mass Movement, the Freelance Players, Urban Improv, and is secretary of The Dance Complex. She retired from full-time work at Boston University but continues to teach Pilates.
Anne Marie is the owner and Co-Director of DanceSport Boston in Weymouth, MA, and has taught Ballroom Dance since 1984. Starting as a dance student while studying art and fashion, she received the “Outstanding Creative Achievement Award” for her dance-inspired fashion collection. A former competitor in American Style Smooth and Rhythm, she has choreographed for students, commercials, and fundraisers. She managed Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray studios, and was Arthur Murray’s top producing executive/teacher worldwide for three years. She coached the BU Ballroom Dance Club for seven years and has been a guest instructor at Harvard, MIT, Boston College, and Boston Conservatory.
