Reclaim – 12.2

In celebration of our 10th anniversary season, Nozama Dance Collective presents RECLAIM, an evening-length concert of live contemporary dance. The performance will include multiple world premieres, your favorite Nozama repertory works including a historical restaging of a work by our founding director, and guest artists from the greater Boston dance community. With a focus on storytelling, and the celebration and reclamation of our histories, dances across the evening tackle grief, coming of age, body image, untold histories, and more. This performance of powerful dance and poetic inquiry takes on moving socio-political themes while also presenting visionary and rigorous dance work. The evening culminates in a new signature work by Nozama’s artistic director Dana Alsamsam that explores mistold, silenced or forgotten women’s history. Join us for an evening of powerful dance and poetic inquiry will launch Nozama into another decade of stories and collaborative making.

Nozama Dance Collective is a contemporary dance company and community of creators focused on collaboration and portraying intersectional experiences of identity through technical movement and dance. Co-founded by Gracie Baruzzi and Natalie Schiera in 2013, today, the company is led by visionary Artistic Director Dana Alsamsam. In addition to producing their own evening length concert performances, Nozama has a long history of participating in local community festivals and events, as performers and teaching artists, such as NACHMO, Dance for World Community Festival, and others. With movement described as “raw,” “technical,” and “powerful,” Nozama utilizes exploration of sociopolitical themes, as well as gesture, athleticism, and partnering to move audiences.
