January 2024 Student Employees of the Month

Congratulations to these outstanding student employees who contribute to the success of PERD programs and services!

If you see these students on campus, be sure to congratulate them!

Aquatics – Saul Hodin

Saul was added to our lifeguard lineup in December of 2022 and brought with him the knowledge and expertise to make him stand out from the rest. His natural ability to lead the lifeguard staff landed him a spot on our Deck Supervisor roster in the fall of 2023. Saul is also known to be a major team player; picking up shifts during the winter break and helping out in a pinch when needed are just a couple of examples of what makes him a dynamite employee! He is very calm & patient, which really shows when someone asks a question, and he can make anyone feel welcome at the pool! He is currently looking to educate others on being a lifeguard by pursuing an LGI (lifeguard instructor) certification.

EMS – Ben Cheney

Ben, despite having joined BUEMS only in December, has quickly established himself as a reliable team member. Throughout the winter break, he consistently stepped up, covering challenging shifts and putting in extra hours. In recognition of his unwavering commitment, we are pleased to announce Ben as BUEMS’s Employee of the Month!

Facilities – Alfredo De Los Santos

Alfredo was a major part of our Winter Break and Intercession coverage team. Working over 20 hours each week, the front desk could not have run without his help. Always bringing the fun and hype to the front desk, Alfredo kept spirits high on long early January days. Thank Alfredo for the joy you bring and your empathetic customer service. With Alfredo, you know you will always receive service with a smile.

Fitness – Ben Pollock

Ben joined the Personal Training Team this Fall and has been a great addition! He has demonstrated excellent client management and is always eager to help wherever possible. We appreciate Ben’s reliability, communication skills, and strong work ethic. Ben exceeds expectations and is an excellent representation of the Fitness Staff. Having Ben on our team is a pleasure, and we look forward to continuing to work with him.

Intramurals – Dhanraj Gala

Dhanraj is a new addition to the BUIM staff, but the lack of experience has not stopped them from learning voraciously. Dhanraj’s commitment to learning the game and improving their craft has led to a serious impact and genuine improvement in all three intramural sports. That adaptability has led to confidence and high-level performance in volleyball, soccer, and basketball. As we prepare for the spring intramural season, students like Dhanraj become integral to the success of the program.

Outdoor Programs – Sarah Rohrbeck

Outdoor Programs is pleased to announce Sarah Rohrbeck as the January Student Employee of the Month. Sarah joined the climbing wall staff this past fall and has quickly distinguished herself as a vital team member. In addition to taking a recurring role as a climbing wall attendant, Sarah has jumped at other program opportunities such as kids and family climbing and recurring school rentals. We can count on Sarah’s friendliness, knowledge, and good cheer whether she’s checking in regular climbers or teaching school kids how to fit harnesses and tie in. It has been our pleasure to see Sarah thrive, and we extend our warm congratulations to Sarah for her excellent work.

PERD Administration (Club Sports) – Matthew Marsallo

Matt is the January PERD Employee of the Month. Matt works tirelessly to ensure that all of the club sports vans are prepped for each weekend’s plethora of trips. Matt’s attention to detail and collaboration with the PERD desk students made him successful in this role.

Pro Shop – Olivia Kirker

ProShop and WBA would not be able to function without Olivia as a part of their team. Olivia oversees trainings and skate sharpening at WBA and excels at both areas. She trains students with clarity and patience. She is essential to all things WBA, and we are beyond thankful for her. In ProShop, Olivia has been invaluable when it comes to training students during her shifts. Olivia is a student we can trust with lots of responsibility and know that things will be accomplished in both a timely and professional manner. Thank you for everything that you do, Olivia! Thank you, especially, for the time you spent in ProShop over Winter Break and Intercession. It did not go unnoticed. We will sorely miss Olivia when she graduates in May!
