Meet Kate Durant, FitRec’s new Assistant Director of Programs. She joined FitRec in May and while her day-to-day activities constantly change, she frequently helps develop new programming initiatives.

Kate is a fitness enthusiast whose vocabulary doesn’t include the word “can’t”. She’s taught group fitness classes, plays in the FitRec staff summer softball league, is a certified personal trainer, runs marathons, completed an Ironman and ran over 1208 miles in a year! Safe to say, when it come to fitness Kate is not afraid to push herself.

Fitness has always been a part of Kate’s life. Throughout her childhood she played sports and she stayed involved in Field Hockey throughout high school and college. Prior to joining the FitRec staff she worked in New York City as a Project Manager for New York City Parks, where she helped develop fitness initiatives, sports events, and programs for community members. She has also served as the Club Sports coordinator at the University of Connecticut.

While it’s no secret Kate is a fitness enthusiast, you probably aren’t aware of her artistic side. In her free time, Kate writes poetry and has a knack for creating great speeches. Kate’s also very creative when it comes to creating physical art. She’s great with her hands! She enjoys re-upholstering furniture she finds at estate sales, makes her own jewelry and likes to collage. The coolest part about Kate’s artistic side? Her photography. Kate’s Instagram “@AbsolutDurant” features city landscapes, architecture, selfies and last but not least… pictures of her adorable dog Louis!
