The Center for the Study of Europe presents Digital Sovereignty: Brussels Buzzword or New Approach? – A Lecture by Swati Srivastava
Swati Srivastava is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Purdue University. In 2023-24, she will be on fellowship as a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University's Institute for Rebooting Social Media in the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. Previously, she was an Assistant Professor of Global Politics at Humboldt State University and an Andrew Mellon Foundation and American Council of Learned Societies doctoral fellow.
Srivastava broadly researches private actors in global governance. Her book, Hybrid Sovereignty in World Politics (Cambridge Studies in International Relations, 2022), explores how sovereign power is expressed through nonstate actors such as security contractors, business associations, and NGOs. Her current project explores the global politics of Big Tech. She also theorizes relational approaches like constructivism and new kinds of responsibility.
Moderated by Kaija Schilde, Associate Professor of International Relations and Director of the Center for the Study of Europe in the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University and Jean Monnet Chair in European Security and Defense.
