The Future of Europe and the EU: A Pardee School Inaugural Lecture with Vaira Vike-Freiberga, Former President of Latvia (1999-2007)

Please join us for a Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies Inaugural Lecture on “The Future of Europe and the EU” with Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former president of Latvia. Latvia's first female president, Dr. Vike-Freiberga was elected in 1999 and re-elected in 2003. She played a key role in Latvia’s NATO membership and its ascension to the European Union. Dr. Vike-Freiberga was also a Special Envoy to the Secretary General on United Nations reform and was an official candidate for UN Secretary General in 2006. She has been a member of the Council of Women World Leaders since 1999.

Dr. Vike-Freiberga's lecture will be followed by a discussion, to be moderated by Vivien Schmidt, Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration at Boston University and Director of the Center for the Study of Europe, and a reception, featuring a musical performance by Latvian violinist Aija Reke.
