Trade in the Trump Era 2.0 Conference (11/03/25)

Join us for a conference on Trade in the Trump Era 2.0. The conference seeks to examine the complexities and transformations in global trade policies and economic diplomacy during and subsequent to the Trump administration, with a lens on transatlanic trade relations. Ambassador Katherine Tai, former US Trade Representative, will be the Keynote Speaker. Dr. Daniela Caruso will be a moderator and introduce the event. Dr. Caruso organized the first iteration of this event, Trade Law in the Trump Era, in September 2017. (SEE DETAILED SCHEDULE BELOW)

Keynote Address The conference opens with a keynote address by Amb. Tai that sets the stage by exploring the complex interplay between trade policy, international law, and diplomatic strategy.

Panel #1 includes Professor Jan Wouters from KU Leuven, Dean Chantal Thomas from Cornell Law School, and Dr. Dimitrios Skiadas from the Tufts Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Panel 1 will delve into comparative perspectives on international trade law, with a particular emphasis on US-EU transatlantic relations, highlighting the dynamics shaping cooperation and conflict in this critical partnership.

Panel #2 includes Dr. Kevin Gallagher and Rachel Thrasher, J.D. from the Boston University Global Development Policy Center (the Pardee School of Global Studies), and Kelly Fay Rodriguez the former Special Representative for International Labor Affairs. Panel 2 will focus on global development and trade, addressing important contemporary issues such as the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), labor-related reforms, and the evolving challenges and opportunities faced by policymakers in shaping equitable and sustainable trade frameworks.
