The Department occasionally has funding opportunities for master’s students in the form of teaching fellowships or research assistantships. Students should contact the Graduate Program Coordinator about available teaching opportunities or talk to specific faculty members they prefer to work with.
Teaching Assistantships
Some students will be invited to serve as teaching assistants, leading discussion sections or labs for undergraduate courses. Students are compensated $6,000 per semester (before taxes) in weekly installments over 17 or 18 weeks, depending on the semester. The first paycheck will be send on the Friday of the second week of work. Students can pick up paychecks from the Student Employment Office (881 Commonwealth Avenue, 2nd Floor), but most students prefer to set up direct deposit. All new Teaching Assistants are required to attend the GRS TF Orientation in the fall.
Research Assistantships
Occasionally faculty members will have grant funding available for Master’s students either in the fall or spring semester or over the summer. Students are compensated $6,000 per semester (before taxes) in weekly installments over 17 or 18 weeks, depending on the semester.
