Is there a remote option?

The program is in-person only.

How long is the program?

The program is designed to be complete in one year (two semesters, four classes per semester), but some students have favored taking few courses per semester and completing the degree in one-and-a-half years.

Can I start in January?

We do not offer admission to begin in the spring semester. The program’s course rotation is designed for students to begin in the fall.

Is there a minimum requirement for my GPA or GRE score?

No. In reviewing applications, the Department takes into consideration all aspects of your academic and professional experience.

What experience in quantitative analysis will allow for a GRE waiver?

Students with a substantial background in statistics and calculus may be eligible to bypass the GREs. This background may come through coursework as demonstrated on a transcript or professional experience as demonstrated on a resume.

Is there a minimum requirement for my TOEFL score?

Yes. TOEFL: 100 Overall Score (25 recommended in each section). Internet-based Test (iBT) only. We do not accept “MyBest Scores.”

Is there a minimum requirement for my IELTS score?

Yes. IELTS: 7.0 Overall Band Score

Cambridge English Qualifications: 185 Overall Score on B2 First, C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency exams

Do you accept Duolingo language scores?

Yes. Duolingo: 130 Overall Score

My undergraduate instruction was in English. Do I have to take a proficiency exam?

No, but we will ask you to provide documentation from your institution.

Is this a STEM-designated program for international students?

Yes! The program qualifies as STEM, according to the code listed on your visa. Click to review [pdf].

Is the program intended for working professionals or is it suited to students coming out of undergraduate study?

Both! The majority of our students pursue the Master’s early in their career, and many enroll right after receiving their Bachelor’s. We do have students who work professionally full-time and pursue the degree part-time.

Is there a thesis?

There is no thesis to complete the degree.

What is your acceptance rate?

Boston University is selective in its recruitment and in encouraging prospective students to apply; for that reason, admission rates in the program are quite high.

Do graduates get jobs?

Yes! Since 2016, more than 83% of our students have found employment in the field immediately after graduating.

Is there an open house or information session I can attend?

The Department doesn’t hold regular open houses or info sessions, but prospective students are welcome to visit the Department, sit in on classes and other activities, and meet faculty. Contact our Senior Program Coordinator if you want to come see us. The Graduate School hosts virtual sessions about BU.
