Boston University Wind Ensemble “Neoclassic Images”
- Starts: 7:30 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2026
- Ends: 9:00 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2026
Boston University School of Music presents Boston University Wind Ensemble. This performance opens with the work that Stravinsky declared the beginning of his Neoclassical period. Ingolf Dahl’s Sinfonietta stands as arguably the most remarkable work in the composer’s ouvre. Both Dahl and Stravinsky lived in Los Angeles after World War II and collaborated on numerous occasions; Dahl was heavily influenced by Stravinsky’s style. Balancing the program is Gala Flagello’s new work Love & Nature and Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2. Flagello explores through her lens the American counterculture of the 1960s-1970s. Renowned Mexican composer Márquez draws upon Cuban dance music and recasts it into symphonic form.
Repertoire:
• Stravinsky: Octet (1923)
• Flagello: Love & Nature (2024)
• Dahl: Sinfonietta (1961)
• Márquez/Nickel: Danzón No. 2 (1994/2009)
