Luca Della Libera Guest Lecture • "Acrimante is not Don Giovanni"
- Starts: 3:00 pm on Friday, March 7, 2025
- Ends: 4:00 pm on Friday, March 7, 2025
Boston University School of Music's Department of Musicology and Ethnomusicology presents guest lecturer Professor Luca Della Libera of the Conservatory of Frosinone: "Acrimante is not Don Giovanni - Cultural context, dramaturgical and musical choices in L'emptio punito of Alessandro Melani." The first opera in the history of music based on the Don Giovanni's subject, "L'empio Punito of Alessandro Melani" was staged in the Teatro Colonna in Rome. The Libretto contains some topoi very common in the european theatrical tradition, but missing in the previous texts on this subject. The result is that libertinism, contempt for death, and the rules of the honor are dried up, as it were, to give more space to spectacular ostentation, the power of figurative impact, and the charm of music.
This event is free and open to the public.
