Is it Possible to Shift Power in Global Health?
- Starts: 4:00 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2025
- Ends: 5:30 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2025
Join the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future for the next talk in its Global Health Politics Workshop series. The event, titled "Is it Possible to Shift Power in Global Health?” will feature Madhukar Pai (Professor and Inaugural Chair, Department of Global & Public Health, School of Population and Global Health, McGill University).
Global health is a highly inequitable field, with Global North individuals and institutions dominating every aspect. To reimagine global health and shift power to people and institutions on the margins and the periphery, everyone in global health must advocate for and activate two forces: leadership by the Global South and allyship by the Global North. This talk will discuss several institutional barriers that prevent meaningful shifts in the distribution of power in global health.
This monthly speaker series brings together leading social scientists from the disciplines of anthropology, political science, and sociology to advance the understanding of health phenomena in a globally interconnected world. The series operates in a hybrid format to accommodate participation in person and via Zoom.
