BUWG Lunch & Learn: What We Need to Know about Children of Incarcerated Parents and Why We Should Care

More than two million children – most under the age of 10 – have an incarcerated parent in the United States. What do we need to know about these children, and what can their experiences us about children and families more broadly? Megan Sullivan will discuss what research tells us, why we should care, and what children of incarcerated parents have to teach all of us as parents, educators, and citizens.

Megan is Associate Dean for Faculty Research and Development and the Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Teaching & Learning, where she creates programs and opportunities for excellent undergraduate instruction. She teaches courses in writing, non-fiction writing, Irish literature and film, and teacher education. She also writes on the impact of incarceration, particularly on children and families, and is the author of several books, including “Parental Incarceration: Personal Accounts and Developmental Impact”.
