SheInspires Lunch Series

This month’s lunch guest is Dr. Milka Koupenova, Assistant Professor at UMass Medical School in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. Dr. Koupenova has been unraveling the mysteries of vascular biology since she was a PhD student at BUSM. In 2016, she was awarded the American Heart Association’s Scientist Development Grant, which she used to fuel research that shed light on the interplay between platelets and viruses such as influenza, and how this interplay mediates the immune response and thrombosis. Dr. Koupenova is also studying possible roles for platelets in the transfer of RNA from external sources, such as pollen, into the human circulation and the possible health effects of this phenomenon.
